I don't have internet in my room here in Washington and have to travel to get internet, so the likelyhood of me posting much before I get home is rather unlikely... I should be back by mid-next week. See you all soon!

My Childhood...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
You know... I once said that the Dragonlance animated film shat upon my childhood.

I was wrong...

This does it:

I don't think I can even go see this for the lulz...

Thanksgiving, James-style!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, yesterday, I went out and saw the new movie Macross Frontier: The False Songstress. The movie was defiently good! Of course, being a compilation film, much of it focused upon the trio of Alto, Ranka, and Sheryl... actually a good deal of it focused on Sheryl and Alto, which is always good in my book!

However, it'd almost be more accurate to say that the movie is BASED upon Macross Frontier... it's more akin to the way Escaflowne's movie was than say Macross: Do You Remember Love? It took the core ideas and went off in a new direction with them.

I gotta say, I was pretty impressed with the results. We might be seeing the start of the definitive Macross Frontier.

This movie was the first half of the Frontier story, albiet different... at the end was a teaser trailer for Macross Frontier: The Wings of Goodbye.

Speculation/slight spoiler warning!

I'm a Robotech fan at heart, lead me to Macross and anime, but seriously... I really do wish Harmony Gold would stop just sitting on the Macross name. I mean, they can't do much with it... and their new work with Shadow Rising wouldn't even USE anything from Macross ANYWAYS.... So sitting on the Macross name and raising a big fuss over it isn't really helping them and its depriving the rest of us of Macross...

(Of course, it doesn't help that The False Songstress is infinitely better than the Shadow Chronicles... and that's from a Robotech fan who LOVES the Sentinels.)

Oh, and there is a very sexy Sheryl Nome concert that puts her at the top of Sexy Macross Singers. (And Mylene is NOWHERE on that list, you hear me?)

Fold Faulting!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hey everybody! Should be my last post at sea... one of my last posts from overseas! (I'll most likely post one final time from Japan next week!)

How's everyone doing?

I've been stressing the heck off by trying to train up my replacement (When they'd let me) and doing crazy ass last minute epic projects for my office! And today, started the packing rearranging my office task! I'm almost done with my ship based check out though! So that's good!

I got Dragon Age Origins btw! Excellent game, but I barely get any chance to play it... and have pretty much stopped until I'm home in Texas becuase: A. I've got work to do here on the ship... and B. I've got two crazy projects that I'm devoting my heart and soul to!

Warning, lots of ranting about Limitless and our LJ/Pen and Paper Macross game! I'd love you all to read... but yeah... it's a bit text heavy!

This is one of my last days on my Navy PC! Next up, I start packing my barracks room up and get geared up for Washington, out processing, then my glorious return home!

I hope everyone has a good one!

Ciao, folks!

Lots of different things...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
You know... when I was younger, a sophmore in High School... I never realized that Macross 7 is Nekki Basara versus the Old Ones. Outer dimensional abberations and monsters are fought off with the power of song, a giant robot piloting bard.

In other news, I realized why I can't wait to get home and what's so different about coming home now, instead of coming home on Leave when I was talking with Helena. When I go home on Leave, I have this feeling that I need to be in a frantic pace to get things done. In fact, I get all caught up and worried that I won't get stuff done that I don't even get to do certain things... (I didn't get much Limitless done, we didn't play many games, etc...)

I'm really feeling excited about it. I think Helena got the right word when she used euphoric... it's certainly surreal to think that this chapter of my life is coming to an end. It's been interesting. In the last few years, I've finished the first draft of a complete book, outlined another, am pouring my soul into a third outline so that we have a solid and complete series. We've managed to finish the first chapter of Limitless, 196 pages of comic booking, I have a stand-alone Limitless short story coming here, I've solidified my college education...

All in all, it's been an interesting series of years... and now, the next chapter is going to begin here soon. *laughs* It's a harder chapter to write than anything of Limitless. There is so much I want to do with myself right now, it's not even funny. While it's not as hectic as Leave, it's even more exciting.

I don't even know how to explain it... I think it's hard for me to sleep becuase I get so excited about everything I can do soon. *laughs*

This post went from silly to really out there... sorry guys. It's movie night in my office and I'm gonna watch a documentary on Online Gaming. I'll talk as much as I can over the next few weeks. I'm about to hit some Fold Waves here in a bit as I prepare to seperate from the Navy... somedays, I'll be on... other days, I'll be silent.

I actually have to start turning over this computer next week. Kind of crazy... relinquishing my office finally. Been my home for quite a bit. I really ought to take some picture of it to show you guys. You'd really get a kick out of it. Made a small portion of this ship my home.

Okay, I'm getting weirdly sentimental... I'm out! Laters guys!

In the ruins of empires, devastated by civil wars and plagues, humanity and the civilized races cling to what little light they can for mere survival. The world has become dark and harsh after being liberated by the strangling Holy Empire of Vannel, but it is said that in the darkest of times… heroes might arise to bring about hope. Could this be the start of such a tale?

So, it’s been a while… but I want to do a play-by-post game. I really could use the distraction and the setting seemed fun and dark. Simple rules: play civilly with each other, write something cool, tell a good story together. Respect the rest of the Limitless board! Beyond that, take the bare bones setting notes I made and feel free to flesh them out how you’d like. Just try and keep with the dark, grim fantasy mood. I invite ALL of you to give it a shot, ‘kay? No dice rolling, fancy character outlines or anything. Just good ‘ole storytelling. Check out the notes on the forum, then drop in and play! You don’t have to make a character outline or wait for approval. Just give it a shot.

Re:FIRE!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So I just picked up Re:Fire, the Fire Bomber Reunion CD.

If you're into Fire Bomber, let me tell you, they sound as great as ever! In fact, Chie Kajiura's (Mylene's singing vo) voice sounds stronger in this CD than she did in Macross 7 itself, which is actually better off.

Of course, this music has a great deal more influence from Yoshiki Fukuyama's later works, but it still sounds pretty much like the Fire Bomber you'd remember. (It resembles Fukuyama Fire's take on the Macross 7 soundtrack.) This is by no means a bad thing! Songs like Daimon (Which I think is supposed to be Daimond) and Big Bang get a Fukuyama Fire treatment with fresh new styles and stellar feeling! Daimon's got a saxophone support, while Big Bang sounds like its got a big band supporting it.

For you Mylene fans, she's got three solo tracks. One track is Love It AD 2060 (A new cover of Love It from Mac 7), Ready Go, and PLASTICS.

And lastly, there is a new accoustic track, Waiting for You which is definetly up there on my favorite tracks from the cd.

Okay, one final note: I do like the idea that this is an in universe Macross cd. Both Love It and Totsugeki Love Heart list themelves as being AD 2060, the current year in the Macross Timeline. (And the focus of the NEXT Macross Frontier movie. The first is a retelling, the second is a sequel. Frontier begins in 2059 and goes through to 2060.)

All in all, it's a stellar cd for fans of Fire Bomber! If you're not keen on teh bomber, you may not be as fond of it... although tracks like Waiting For You, the new Totsugeki Love Heart, and the crazy blood pumping Burning Fire might be for ya and worth a look. It's definetly a wonderful tribute CD of new music from my favorite Macross series! Almost as good as a new Fire Bomber story! Well, almost.

October 30th, 2009

So, I've had a few folks tell me they were more interested in playing Robotech instead of the usual D&D. I took this as a challenge and tried to make a really dynamic, cool Robotech game that would ammount to more than just slinging missiles at targets.

This is my weird idea:
Cut, )

BTW, Chapter One of Limitless is complete and should be going up tommorow? (Actually, I think it's two days from now. I forget that I am from the future!) It clocks in at 196 pages of comic book awesomeness! I really recomend that you check it out, now that the entire first story is up! I still really like this story! The website is at http://www.bloodknight.net/

Ciao!

Quiztastic!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
1. What is the color of your kitchen plates?
White, paper... we're so lazy in my barracks room!

2. Your favorite pair of shoes?
My sneakers, becuase they are MUCH better than my Flight Deck Boots.

3. If you could have an anime character as your sidekick, who would it be?
Lina Inverse: Intelligent, cute, and if we're ever in trouble... goad her into destructive fury and point her in the right direction. (And seriously, that doesn't take too much. Just undercut her when it comes to dinner.)

4. If you were like an anime character, who would you say you were most like?
Louie the Rune Soldier... solve everything with a LOUIE PUNCH! (Or the Irresponsible Captain Tylor. *laughs* My hero!)

5. You just won the lottery! And you..
If its a small lottery, but myself a simple house and make sure its all paid for and taken care of, put most of it in savings, and keep a decent job just so I don't slack off too much (run out of meseta, etc...)
If it's a large lotto winning and I can manage it, build a Keep outside of Austin, muster an army, and siege Lord British's Manor. (Okay, that's mostly a joke... mostly.)

6. Oh great... you're in the mall and it's getting robbed. What do you do?
BREAK OUT THE KUNG FUS, YO!

7. Now we're over the lottery thing and you're poor again...

It's offical. Right at the start of December, I make my voyage home. I should be finished with outprocessing in the first week. Of course, being the Navy, I won't really know a final date til oh... a week or so out... and even then, the processing might go faster or longer than I expect... but that's it! In the first week of December... I will be home!

It's pretty crazy... just a little more than a month to go before I'm done! It's just really hit me....

Can we stop being such SERIOUS BUISNESS?

KTHXBYE!

(Although, on a less pointed and obviously directed commentary note, I have to say, the best thing happened today. One of my friends on the ship, who wasn't an anime fan or anything before, comes up to me today after playing all night and tells me, "You know what... fuck that Protoculture AFOS thing!"
Macross, we're best friends agian, okay?! BOMBER!)

Bad influence

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I've started a bad habbit among my AZ coworkers on board this ship.

Valkyrie tuning.

I've gotten my fellow AZs into playing Macross Ultimate Frontier on the PSP. I have my Skylar Custom Super-Pack VF-25F Messiah tearing its way through anything that happens to get in its way.

I'm trying to beat all the campaigns so I can unlock the VF-2SS from Macross II and the Giglamesh Marduk Power Armor. (Seriously, the game has Macross II scenarios... it's not a campaign... just key missions.)

Although, our newest AZ asked Chamberlain and I a question a few days ago, "Have you guys ever heard of Phantasy Star Online?"

Remind me agian, we don't play PSO anymore, right?

Hoist up the Jolly Roger!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, we’ve talked about doing some RPG-type games when I get back since before I LEFT for the Navy. I’ve narrowed it down to two games I want to run. One will be a modern horror/mystery game. I am still working out the kinks to this.

The second idea I have is for an Eberron based 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons game. That’s what I want to talk about and propose today.

Some may note that this isn’t Robotech… but I was really having a problem with running a game that seemed to only really rely on a good dice roll on shooting 50,000 missiles, or rolling a good dice roll on singing a song. Yes, this is pretty accurate to Macross… but it seems like it would get boring after a while. (I mean, even I’m hard pressed to figure out how to make that fun without saying “You guys need to form a ridiculous love pentacle and bitch and fight over each other. Possibly with giant robots.” )

The basic premise of the D&D game I want to run is that the players form the crew of a small sailing ship in the Lhazaar Principalities of Khorvaire. The Captain, the ships name, its purpose, and so forth would actually be of the player’s will… No rail-roading NPC Captain that bends to my (the DMs) will. Obviously, there would be an origin story for our Captain that I would work out with said player just to give the Campaign and myself some structure… but the idea would be to work with you guys to let you play the characters YOU’d want to play.

The basic feel of the game would be Eberron-stylized swashbuckling adventure! Think the first Pirates of the Caribbean meets Steampunk D&D! Your crew might be freelancers or privateers for one of the Sea Princes, perhaps reputable businessmen and women or pirates. Adventures would cross all genres and styles: some days would be tales of romance and intrigue, some days would see the characters dungeon delving through old pirate hide-outs in search of treasures, other days would have the fate of the entire Principalities hanging in the balance as players thwart a villian’s attempt to destroy or alter some part of the legendary Draconic Prophecy. After that, it’s back to the Pirates Market in Regalport to hawk your wares and get your hands on that amazing relic longsword you’ve seen in that dealer’s sword since day 1.

All in all, the idea is to put an exciting swashbuckling twist to D&D while giving you guys the freedom to make whatever kind of character you want. The main guidelines I have would be that they have to be races and classes from the following books: Eberron Player’s Guide, Forgotten Realm’s Player Guide (Mostly due to the Gensai and Swordmage class), the Players Handbook 1 and 2, and the Martial and Arcane Power book options. I’ll be open to other things as well, but these are the ones I’m EASILY open to. (Mostly because I’ve got the books on me.)

Still got about two months before I go home… (And even then, not a set date or anything yet…) but I wanted to throw this idea out there.

And seriously... D&D with pirates (or as pirates)? How can that NOT be awesome?

This is the final voyage...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Well, hopefully.

If all goes according to my plans, this is my last voyage on the George Washington. Hopefully, soon enough, we'll hear about how/when I'm coming home.

But until then, I'm setting off to sea agian. I left pretty much all my video games at home this time... I got stories to write and things to prepare for. I should be able to jump on here and put a quick post in every now and then. Of course, as soon as I know when I'm getting out, that post will come up on here!

Until then, I hope everyone's having a good one! Live Long and Prosper! May the Force be with you! Walk your path in confidence! Deculture, Everyone! Uh... AND LISTEN TO MY SONG!

Limitless prattling.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Pieces of Limitless are all coming together nicely in my head... It is truly wonderful. Sleep is tough right now as I really start to put this thing together. The next installment isn't too far off either.... in case you haven't seen the first two... they can be seen at http://www.bloodknight.net/~limitless

Third installment really starts picking things up as we move away from my long and drawn out setting things up and move onto that very important thing... people wielding high-tech super weapons and using them agianst each other.

Really! It's looking pretty darn badass! Over the top starships, fancy sci-fi weapons, and so forth! I can't stress the coolness factor. Anyways! That's my quick rant. My brain is in Limitless mode right now... and I had to expunge a bit of it.

Now, I if I can just get some sleep.

A tier of updates for today.

Limitless
After some time and thinking, I've decided to step down from the task of writing Limitless. This seems to be the appropriate step to take. I'm turning it all over to Helena for her to do with it as she sees fit. It is all hers now.

Comic Con
A real good idea I had heard from Helena and do fully support is the idea of gathering together an adventuring party to go to Comic Con next summer. Personally, I find the idea of going to the San Diego Comic Con to be an awesome idea over an anime convention! I wanted to throw that out here and see what you all think about it. (Personally, I think the only anime cons I'm gonna attend this coming year will be Ushicon and San Japan.)

Naval Update
Just got done with one test, got another one coming up, and shortly here soon... I'll be back in the Empire of the Rising Sun. It should be my final stay in Japan... a quick jaunt to sea in October and November and then I should be on my way home in early Dec. Still no firm dates yet... but you guys will hear it when it comes!

It's been a long month... but I'm starting to see my way through it. Hope to talk with you guys soon!
